Eliminate conflict, Kibaki urges Kenyans

MOYALE, Kenya, Nov 7 – President Mwai Kibaki has called on Kenyans to live in harmony in order to realise meaningful development in the country.

He noted that frequent conflicts had impacted negatively on development and called on the public to collaborate with the security agencies in ensuring the peaceful coexistence of all communities.

The Head of State further warned people who incite others into violence pointing out that security forces will deal with them.

President Kibaki was speaking on Tuesday when he addressed Marsabit County Leaders’ Peace Meeting at the Moyale District Commissioner’s residence.

President Kibaki reiterated the commitment of the government to developing all parts of the country noting that the Lamu Port South Sudan and Ethiopia transport corridor (LAPSSET) of which Moyale Turbi Road is a part of will open up the entire North Eastern part of the country to development.

Adding that the government has initiated various development projects in all parts of the country, President Kibaki maintained that Kenya is one country and urged all Kenyans to coexist peacefully.

The Head of State further called on parents in Moyale and other parts of the country to ensure that they take their children to school adding that every child has a right to education.

Present during the function were Roads Minister Franklin Bett, Northern Kenya Development counterpart Mohamed Elmi, Assistant Minister for Roads Wilfred Machage, Acting Head of Civil Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Kimemia and area MP Ali Mohamed Mahamud among other leaders.
